Did You Know The First Female Self Made Millionaire In America Was A Black Woman?

Madam C.J Walker. That is the name of the person regarded as the first self made female millionaire in America. What’s remarkable is not that she was a black lady who became a millionaire, but a black lady living in a time where black people were persecuted.

Madame CJ Walker

She was born as Sarah Breedlove on December 23, 1867 in Lousiana. Her parents were slaves as well as some of her older siblings.

Sarah was the first child of the family born into freedom after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

Not many, possibly no one, would have thought that this girl would go on to become a self made millionaire. She did it through selling hair and beauty products for black women.

Her products were sold throughout the United States, which allowed to her to become a force in the business world.

These products she sold through her own company, Madam C.J Walker. This went on to become the name she was known by.
